I spent most of my twenties in restaurant kitchens, where the whole night depends on the prep you did before service. When I switched to concrete, I learned the trade on flatwork crews around Northern Virginia, pouring driveways, patios and walks, and found the same rule holds. In 2021 I started Mainstay Arlington Concrete Construction here in Arlington.
In concrete, the prep is the base, packed solid under the slab, plus the slope and where the joints go. All of it is buried by the end of the first day, which is why it's the first thing a tight budget wants to trim and the last place I will, because it decides whether your driveway stays put.

I come out to every job myself, and our crew does the forming, pouring and finishing, usually with me on site.
